One of the main
restrictive policies created by the European Union is the Competition
Law. There are three different aspects covered by this policy. In
the first case, the European Union controls antitrust situations where
companies follow anti-competitive behaviors. In the second case, this
policy can penalize companies for doing illegal mergers, acquisitions or
joint ventures. Finally, the EU competition law is in charge of state
aids which controls direct and indirect aid given by the EU member
states to diverse companies. As an example of a company affected by this
regulation it is crucial to mention the case of Microsoft.
